Journal #5: Thesis/ comment

Hurston uses Joe as a symbol to illustrate the theme of superiority; that is, the control one has over a single, or multiple beings.  She does this in order to help the reader understand the strength of Janie's relationship with Tea Cake.

I commented on: Nikki's, Cara's, and Matt's

  1. Excellent thesis. In the last sentence, maybe you could include something about why that relationship is so important to contrast the relationship with Joe. Otherwise, it looks great.

  2. You should connect how Joe being a symbol for superiority is related to Janies relationship with TeaCake

  3. Try to simplify the first sentence more.

  4. Superiority over what? Maybe it should be more specific, like a man's superiority over women in the book.

  5. I think you should be more specific on Joe's sepriority because I might have thought he was more powerful then a Joe's Burger at Bridgeport, which, in my opinion atleast, isnt that significant. if that makes any sense hah
